Hawkes Bay - The home of Thornbury's Merlot & Rosé

Hawkes Bay experiences a more moderate climate compared to other grape growing areas in New Zealand.

Warm days, coolish nights and a gentle sea breeze make it ideal for the ripening of red grape varieties.

We source our grapes predominately from the world-renowned Gimblett Gravels region and its surrounding areas in Hawkes Bay.

Hawkes Bay is known as “Wine Country”, home to many of New Zealand's oldest and most highly-regarded wineries the Hawkes Bay wine trail is a must do.

While in Napier or Hastings, have a look at the 1930s Art Deco architecture which gives the region a distinct character. Or head to the Hawkes Bay Farmers' Market and shop for some local produce.

Te Mata Peak and Cape Kidnappers are also great sightseeing destinations. Cape Kidnappers is home to the largest mainland gannet colony in the world.
