Hawkes Bay
Hawkes Bay is the home of Thornbury Merlot. Experiencing a more moderate climate compared to other grape growing areas of New Zealand, Hawkes Bay's warm days, coolish nights and gentle sea breeze make it ideal for the ripening of red grape varieties.
Thornbury fruit is sourced from the coveted Gimblett Gravels viticultural area. Free-draining, low vigour sites ensure ripe concentrated fruit, with rounded, silky tannins.
Experience Hawkes Bay...
Hawkes Bay offers a vast range of activities and attractions. It is known as "Wine Country" for a reason. Home to many of New Zealand's oldest and most highly-regarded wineries, the Hawkes Bay wine trail is a must do.
While in Napier or Hastings, you will find the 1930s Art Deco architecture gives the region a distinct character. You might like to shop for local produce at Hawkes Bay Farmers' Market. Te Mata Peak and Cape Kidnappers are great sight seeing destinations. Cape Kidnappers is the largest mainland Gannet colony in the world.
If you're into sport, why not go cycling or have a round of golf, or for the adventurous, try an early morning Balloon flight (AA 101 Must-Do for Kiwis).
