Central Otago
The most continental climate of New Zealand’s regions, Central Otago enjoys hot days and cool nights. Although short, the growing season is extremely intense; hot summer days, low rainfall and dry shale based soils mean the vineyards are dependent on careful irrigation management. The Thornbury vineyards in this region are planted with a variety of Pinot Noir clones, leaving us with our Thornbury Pinot Noir which is distinctive in style and layered with complexity.
Don't miss out when you're in Central Otago..
Walking, cycling or horse riding the Otago Central Rail Trail is a great way to see the dramatic landscapes of this part of the country. The Rail Trail is a 150km long old railway route, between Clyde and Middlemarch.
For something different in the winter while in Central Otago give a winter sport like curling a try. Curling is a bit like playing bowls on ice.
Check out the talents of local artists in local galleries and craft shops in small towns throughout the region.
